Hydroenergia del General, Limitada is a Costa Rican limited liability company that owns the Rio General Hydroelectric Project ("Rio General"). The 40MW Rio General project is located in the province of Heredia, Costa Rica
approximately 50 km from San Jose, Costa Rica. Oxbow Power Corporation owns 20% of the project.
Rio General is delevering electricity to the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad pursuant to a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement, with fixed capacity and energy payments over the life of the Project.
The Rio General project was constructed by Saret, a Costa Rican construction company experienced in construction of power generation facilities, including several hydro projects in Costa Rica. The design and engineering for the project was provided by BEL engineering, a Costa Rican firm with hydro experience. GE provided a "water to wire" equipment package which included 2 x 20MW vertical shaft “Francis” type turbine generators. The total project cost was $80 million, with project financing provided by RBTT . Construction commenced in January of 2004 and commercial operation began in May of 2006.
